Spring Summer 2016: Fashion Trends to Look Forward To
For Spring/Summer 2016, the catwalk has been alive with stunning collections. Neutral tones such as browns and nudes seem to be at the forefront of designers’ minds, and the cuts are very flattering. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Spring/Summer is my favourite season! I absolutely love the beach, the sun, and the ability to sit outside in a pretty, flowing summer dress (without a jacket or cardigan on!).

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Spring/Summer is my favourite season! I absolutely love the beach, the sun, and the ability to sit outside in a pretty, flowing summer dress (without a jacket or cardigan on!).
I have observed the latest collections and noted a handful of trends for Spring/Summer 2016 that I simply can't get enough of. So, if you want to remain on-trend next season, the following statements are worth looking to:
We transition from skinny and boyfriend jeans, to flattering pants
For over a decade, skinny jeans were at the top, and the boyfriend cut (which, personally, are a favourite style of mine) has recently been added to the list. However, the trend for these shapes finally seems to be ebbing as more and more designers are getting creative with their cuts. We can expect to see more flattering pants – made to accentuate narrow hips or add shape to your behind. These pants are designed to bring out the unique characteristics of your figure, instead of cramming it into a popular, skinny silhouette (hallelujah!).
Overskirts are back!
More and more people have been wearing skirts over pants in the last few years, and I think that this pattern is likely to continue. Our own Ksenia Schnaider even dabbled in this trend for Spring/Summer 2016. Also, with the popularity of somewhat ethnic designs, it’s logical to expect that overskirts will make a full return. They come in a great variety of shapes and styles – from aprons to peplum skirts – so we have plenty of interesting ideas to look forward to. I can't wait!
Brown vs. Black
Black has been THE ultimate color for as long as anyone can remember (half of my wardrobe is black). It's a neutral option for shoes, coats, bags, and more. However, brown has been steadily been gaining ground in the market. Brown is no less classy than black and, in my opinion, looks a little more fresh than an inky black. It's highly unlikely that black will ever be replaced, but you should definitely start embracing brown as a strong, neutral tone.
Nude is trending
Louboutin’s #NudesForAll campaign is proof that nudes are going to be in trend for Spring/Summer 2016. Many designers are introducing different shades of nude in their collections, and this trend is garnering speed extremely fast. The color palette of nudes is expanding – making them more attractive for customers, as there's more choice. This diversity is bound to draw even more attention to this particular style, and it’s unlikely that this will change anytime soon, so investing in a pair of nude shoes (or, better yet, several pairs) is a must for every fashionista! (Don't worry, I've got to go shopping, too!)
Crochet and bright colors
Another trend that made a return from the past is crochet. It was “the thing” of the 70s and it seems that it’s going to be revived in full force next summer. Bright colors and crochet swimsuits are definitely going to be hitting the beach!
Seduction of silk and open shoulders
Spring/Summer 2016 promises to be full of sensual designs. Open shoulders are trending, so stock up on good sunscreen to protect your exposed skin. Silk (which is seduction in itself) is seen in the majority of collections, so look forward to flowing dresses, skirts, and tops that caress your body when you move.
An affair with suede continues
There is another gift from the 70s coming our way. Suede is getting more popular by the day and the collections of Alberta Ferretti, Jonathan Saunders, and Rebecca Minkoff clearly state that this isn’t going to change anytime soon.
Pretty influences from the Victorian era
High collars, sensual silhouettes and floral prints – characteristic to Victorian fashion – are back in style (especially for women’s dresses and blouses). I love how these elements mix both strong design with feminine touches.
All-in-all, Spring/Summer 2016 promises to be colorful, seductive, and focused on accentuating the natural grace and beauty of the body with the use of flattering cuts and fabrics that hug you in all the right places. I can't wait!
