With so many fashion trends being in one year and out the next, it can be difficult to say what the newest craze will be. However, with so many people being environmentally conscious, many of the fashion that was once so loved has had to be drastically modified in order to remain in trend. Furs are one of those iconic bits of fashion that had to take the faux route in order to appeal to the masses. However, the question is, will leather have to take a fashion detour as well or will it remain tougher than ever in the year to come?

Current Trends

2019 brought us many leather looks, some revised, some new, but all of the looks have been quite popular this year. Styles from the 80's such as belted leather trenches, leather pants, jumpsuits, quilted clutches, blazers, skirts, dresses, and more. Pretty much almost every type of piece of clothing you can think of has been transformed into a leather version and has been trending this past year. Now, many designers are implementing new designs in their leather bags such as the quilted clutch which seems to only be the beginning of innovative leather designs to come. Who knows what trends will come our way in 2020? It could bring the same types of trends we’ve seen in 2019, but it’s too soon to tell. But these are the trends we have seen in fashion so far, and they could remain throughout 2020.

Faux Leather

Because leather is just one of those things that gives a garment a certain "look," there are many people who will always want to wear leather even if it's faux. With all the talk of sustainability and veganism, there are thankfully lots of alternatives for people who want to have the leather look without actually wearing leather. There are many types of materials that mimic the look of leather,” that mimic the look of leather, allowing you to be fashionable while remaining environmentally conscious.

Where It Never Goes Out of Style

Although leather may take a break from the runway, one place it will always remain in style is on the backs of motorcycle riders. Leather jackets are often used to lower the effects of road rash injuries. For a biker, wearing a leather jacket is about more than just looking cool, it is also about being safe. The same can be said for industrial workers where their boots must be made of leather in order to maximize the worker's safety.

Whether you are a person who prefers to wear "in" fashions or if you have a more unique style, leather, even faux, can help add a sense of luxury to even the most basic outfit. Leather in whatever fashion form can truly be in a class of its own, totally apart from any trend. So, is leather going to be in style in 2020? Only time will tell.
